consulting

We provide consulting services in addition to the writing, research and development in process.

What can the RDPRobotics Consulting Service help with?

This service can be applied to any part of your project, and we will work with you to help you to be successful. You will work with PhD level engineers who have over two decades of experience in engineering design, development, and application. We have worked with clients at various levels of the design process from the planning stage to near completion stage. Contact us and we'll work with you to determine the best path forward.

How does it work?

Engaging

The process of engaging with us is straightforward.

  • You contact us typically by email initially, then by phone for a quick discussion
  • We help you to clarify your need, where your project is and where it needs to go.
    • At this stage we do not typically sign NDAs (Non-disclosure agreements), but we can once we engage in a contract.
  • We discuss our terms (i.e. fee schedule, contract terms, etc) and your terms, and draw up a contract, a plan, and a timeline.
    • Some clients prefer to start with theirs, and we can work with that, however we prefer to make adjustments if the contract is too one-sided. We have a contract prepared which has a fair balance of terms in order to save time as an alternative. A contract needs to have a fair exchange and protect both parties. Our belief is the best business practice is that which brings success to all parties involved (i.e. we should all benefit). We operate based on ethics and want to see our clients succeed.
    • The plan and timeline attempts to account for unknowns during the process, and with more rigidity comes less of an ability to make changes as we go. We will remind you of this if you ask for changes, and help you understand how to get to your goals.
    • Research and development typically is more open-ended and can be performed with an hourly fee basis or similar methods of compensation.
  • Once all parties are satisfied, we execute the contract and have an initial kickoff meeting
    • The meeting can be in person or virtual (phone, skype, internet, etc)

Project progress

  • We track project progress through a number of tools, but the most fundamental is regular updates
  • At least weekly we will provide project updates through a structure we set up with the client
    • Typically this is in the form of a meeting or phone call and email or short summary documents describing where we are and discussing any issues

Project completion

  • When the project goals are all satisfied according to the criteria defined at the beginning of the project, we will have a project completion meeting and discuss the next steps
  • Once all the invoices are paid, the final information, hardware, documentation, etc can be delivered

Payments

  • We accept checks, cash, and all major credit/debit cards. We cannot work for equity only for various reasons we can discuss
  • It depends on the fee schedule arranged before the start of the project how this works
  • (Common method) If the compensation structure is hourly, we provide monthly or biweekly invoices with an agreed upon timing for payment (typically 14 days)
  • (Less common) If the project is by percent completion, specific milestones were set up at the beginning and as we pass them the payments will be due for the next phase of work to continue
  • (Least common) If there is a monthly retainer plus other charges then the structure will be set up but typically involves a monthly fee, plus additional fees per task or project, or hourly after some base availability is satisfied
